Happy Birthday America!

Independence Day honors the birthday of the United States of America and the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Each year on July 4th, Americans everywhere celebrate their freedom and independence. It is a national holiday marked by various patriotic events, including parades, concerts and thrilling fireworks displays. The 4th of July is also a chance for family and friends throughout the country to gather for picnics and barbecues.

Whether you'll be hosting your own "fun in the sun" event or bringing a dish along to someone else's holiday bash, here are a few ideas from the SGCC recipe archives that you and yours might enjoy.

Have a great (and safe) holiday weekend!

Susan - happy 4th weekend to you! All of your dishes look wonderful :)
This comment is completely off topic, but I jsut had to tell you this. Last night Kevin and I returned to the neighborhood red sauce Italian restaurant where we had our first date for the first time in years. We had a very nice meal and I of course had to ask for the dessert menu.

I opened the menu and what did I see?

TORTONI!

It brought back memories of both my childhood and your tortoni post. Restaurants still do make it - or at least Chef Antonio's does. I ordered it and though of you the whole time I was eating it.

Thanks for your great comments, everyone! I'm glad you enjoyed this little trip through the SGCC archives. I hope you all had a great weekend! We were busy bees all weekend, visiting family and friends and getting a jump on some projects around the house. If only it wasn't so damn hot!

Short(dis)Order Cook- No way!!! I can't believe you found tortoni on the menu of your special place. Was it not on there before? That is so funny!

Thanks for thinking of me! :D

Heather- I have a nasty headache every day! His name is Mr. SGCC! ;)

Hope you're feeling better.
